Man is free, Woyzeck. Man is the ultimate expression of the individual urge to freedom. – Can’t hold your water!
Are we really as free as we wish to believe we are? Instead of writing an essay about this, Büchner imagined a man. His corporeal argument against enlightenment still resonates centuries later. Putting the theatre play back into its original historical and philosophical context, this adaptation articulates the beliefs uttered at the trial of the real original Woyzeck and contrasts them with a visceral dissection of a being ravaged by his environment, plagued by distorted senses and incubating delusions.
Through music, the choatic environment of the lone character on stage comes through his consciousness, his body made machine takes on the violence spewed against him. The tragic tone of this story can seem to take a comic turn. But is laughter really fitting? Or are you just looking out from the privilege of a clear mind?

Tijdens het Grote zaal project gaan vijf studenten van Regie 3 voor het eerst aan de slag in de grote zaal. Gebaseerd op teksten van Hansberry, Buchner & Fosse maken zij een voorstelling van ca. 30 minuten. Het publiek kan op een avond meerdere voorstellingen bezoeken:
